Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Sammy Adjei is seeking a return to the national side but would have to impress technical handlers of the Black Stars for a call up.

The GFA have confirmed the goalkeeper has written to them rescinding an earlier decision to resign from Black Stars duties.

"Yes there is a letter from Sammy Adjei saying he will be available for selection again and like every Ghanaian footballer we will consider him but it is purely one for the technical team to deal with," GFA president Kwesi Nyantekyie said.

Adjei was first choice Ghana goalkeeper at the 2002 Nations Cup and during the qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup but lost his place to Richard Kingson in the build up to the tournament.

His frustrations at playing second fiddle boiled over after the 2008 Nations Cup and he wrote to the GFA resigning from all national team duties. He subsequently had issues at club level but has now settled in well at Hearts of Oak and wants a second chance with the Black Stars.

"I hereby rescind my decision to quit the national team and wish to inform you personally that I am very agile and active," he said in the letter. "I believe strongly I have a lot to offer this nation, whenever offered the opportunity again. I hope this humble letter meets your favourable consideration to serve a nation which has done so much for my football career."

While Adjei's qualities as a goalkeeper has never been in doubt, his attitude when he lost his number one spot within the Black Stars made him a hugely unpopular figure within the team particular at the 2008 Nations Cup when he refused to warm up in a game while Richard Kingson was down injured.

But Kingson has barely played at club level and with growing evidence of a lack of quality in the goalkeeping department and an over reliance on Kingson, Adjei may well get his chance.
