Marcos Baghdatis finally looks to have put his injury woes behind him and is finding the hard courts of the USA very much to his liking.
The 2006 Australian Open finalist is finally back to his best form and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the likeable Cypriot challenging for major honours at the US Open starting next week in New York.
After a lacklustre 2009, where Baghdatis was forced to play a number of lower level challenger tournaments to regain some confidence and ranking points, 2010 has seen Marcos move back in the right direction and, after regaining his place amongst the world's top 40 players, the 25 year old has moved even further up the rankings to just inside the top 20.
There is still plenty more to come for Marcos who will look to improve on his best ever world ranking of number 8 in the coming months.
2010 started well for Cyprus's most famous sports star. He won a tournament in Sydney in January before having to pull out of one of his favourite tournaments, the Australian Open, through injury. Marcos then struggled with his form throughout the next couple months gaining only a couple of semi final spots in Dubai and Munich and missing out on major ranking points with early exits in the Masters Series in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo. |
