President Sepp Blatter has defended FIFA's integrity following the decision to provisionally suspend two officials allegedly involved in the World Cup voting corruption scandal.
Following an investigation by The Sunday Times, Nigerian Amos Adamu and Tahiti's Reynald Temarii have been suspended.
The newspaper claimed the pair offered to sell their votes ahead of December's World Cup 2018 host decision in exchange for funding toward football projects.
"We have the necessary tools to intervene when necessary and that is what we have done today," explained Blatter.
"I was a little bit surprised that you say 'is Fifa corrupt?' Ladies and gentleman, in the world of sport, Fifa is actually a well-recognised organisation and institution and if there are some activities that are against the ethics and the morals that's why the ethics committee came in.
"Trust us and you will see confidence will be restored."
FIFA's ethics committee will meet again in early November to decide what action will be taken against the pair.
