Berekum Chelsea produced a magnificent performance on Sunday to come from two down to beat Asante Kotoko 3-2 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Surprised? Absolutely not.
Poor run
The Porcupine Warriors since week 7 of the Ghana league where they recorded a 2-1 win over visiting Real Tamale United have not won a match.
Their loss on Sunday was the fourth consecutive defeat suffered in Kumasi and the fifth in six matches, thus Kotoko has dropped 16 points from a possible 18.
Major decisions
During this poor run the club have seen the change of guard twice with Ebo Mends exiting after the week 9 defeat to rivals Hearts of Oak and Opoku Nti who took charge for just one game before making way for incumbent Bogdan Korak.
Slight improvement
Serbian trainer Bogdan Korak since taking over, has presided over a draw and a loss but there are signs of improvements no matter the magnitude. At least on Suday he proved Kotoko is capable of scoring but now has to sort out the defensive frailties of the team. He surely has a big job to do on the confidence level of the players but for all who saw the game on Sunday, despite the loss, would be encouraged by Kotoko's display.
Expert the worse
Rome was not built in a day and as such Kotoko faithfuls should be prepared to see their darling club suffer more defeats before they get any better.
Kotoko plays Dwarfs and All Stars in their next two games - games that can by no means be assured of victory.
What fans should rather do is to give their maximum support and hope things speeds up for a smooth take off. They really need it now. |
